Summer Playlist 2014

Even though Autumn technically starts tomorrow, I thought I'd suck the marrow out of Summer and squeeze in this playlist! However, through this post I've realised that my music taste is more eclectic than I thought and not as seasonal. It's more of a a "boppy, yet occasionally glum" playlist...

Listen and let loose!

De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising album just screams summer to me!

... Very closely followed by this gem! IIIIIIII AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE

I see your face in every flower, your eyes in stars above...

And if you don't know, now you know...

This song was HUGE in Greece. Even though it's French, I find myself singing full verses - it's so catchy!

They have laughed inside her laughter.

Wackiest / trippiest / best music video of all time.

I don't speak a word of Brazilian but have been listening to this singer for years, such jovial tunes to nod your head to!

I once had a life, or rather life had me.
(PLAY ON FULL VOLUME AND FUNK OR DON'T PLAY AT ALL)

It feels sooooo gooOoOoOOoooOod

Imagine me and you, I do.

Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you've ever seen.

Terrible song, don't even get me started on the video, but whenever I've had a glass of wine (or two, or three) I live to sing it!

~ LOSE YOURSELF FOR 7 MINUTES. JUST GROOVE! ~

I said her from the city so her got to be witty witty.
She said him from the country so him got to be funky funky.

Who be my Valentine?

How Scandinavian of me.

Got to play our cards.

When this kiss is over, it will start again.

Staple for any Summer (Autumn, Winter, Spring) party playlist

And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope,
It's a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat.

On se dit qu' a vingt ans on est le roi du monde, et qu' éternellement il y aura dans nos yeux tout le ciel blue.

I'm off to the airport in a couple of hours to create some new memories in some new places. I know what I'll be listening to on the plane...

What songs are on your Summer playlist?

Brew Break #1 Prada Candy

I have a confession to make. I'm a Francophile. From the city-pharmas, quaint coffee shops and pâtisseries, to the iconic street style; I'm utterly enamoured. So when Prada announced that my favourite Parisian actress Léa Seydoux was the face of their new perfume Candy, I was over the moon. As part of the promotion, Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola joined forces to create three episodes following the wild life of Candy. I think I'm in love.

"How do you say banana split in French?"
"Banana split"

"What kind?"

"Third class."

My birthday's looming so if anyone asks, I want a double-vanilla-chocolate-almond cream cake too!

That Paris exists and anyone could choose to live anywhere else in the world will always be a mystery to me. - Midnight in Paris

Style Crush #4 Alexa Chung

Good morning Petals :-)

I know what you're thinking: Mary Kate and Ashley yesterday, Alexa Chung today... how predictable. However, there is a method to my madness. I figured as I started my style crush series with more obscure fashionistas such as Miroslava Duma and Margherita Maccapani Missoni, it's time to go back to the basics. I'm craving the icons.

Gracing the cover of Glamour Italia / April 2014

Everyone and their Grandma seem to be head over heels in love with Alexa Chung, well how can you not be? She's what I like to call a triple threat: genuinely talented, has impeccable style and has her head in the sky but feet (firmly) on the ground! The blogosphere went cuckoo when she released her highly anticipated book 'It' ~ brimming with musings, doodles and candid photographs

Alexa is in many ways as much famous for her presenting work as she is for her trademark Parisian 60's style (think more Jane Birkin, less yé-yé girls). However, for this post I've mostly chosen my favourite outifts of hers where she's stepping out of her Birkin bubble (as chic and classic as it is) and delving further into the fashion abyss. Is there anything this lady can't pull of? No, seriously...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ruffles, ruffles and more ruffles!

On her way to the New York book signing of 'It'.

I've just stumbled upon this gem... Poppy Delevingne's boots are cosmic!

If I had the cloak of invisibility, the first thing I would do is raid Alexa Chung's wardrobe! (I hope she has size 4 shoes)

This has to be my favourite candid shot of Alexa for numerous reasons:
1. She's wearing her ex-boyfriends band top.
2. There are red ballet shoes tied to her handbag.
3. She's wearing a slick of red lipstick.
4. She's strolling through New York City.

London fashion week front row attire.

 Be still my beating heart.

If you had Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility, whose wardrobe would you make a beeline for?

DW

I know what I want for Christmas. A monogrammed Burberry blanket cape. I don't ask for much, do I?

Although the cape is a pretty penny, I love the idea of a group of girlfriends sharing eachother's - just for the fun of it. I see you Cara rocking Jourdan Dunn's! ;-)

It's like the grown up version of the tacky monogrammed necklace we all had as a goober from Cheddar gorge-ous. Just me?

Style Crush #3 Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (revolutionary, I know)

That's right, me again. It's one of those days. The heavens have opened, I have a list as long as my arm of things to do before I go travelling on Sunday and... I'm full of a cold. What else to do but write my third post of the day - and it's only 5 o'clock...

Whenever I'm feeling under the weather, I do one of four things: watch The Goonies, catch up with The Great British Bake Off, blog or moon over MK & Ashley. Guess which one I turned to today...

*Warning: It's like staring into the sun*

My Stevie Nicks vibe radar is off the richter scale!

This was saved on my laptop as 'whenever you're feeling blue Google the Olsen sisters..' I love writing / finding hidden messages to my future self!

Pruuuune.

Seeing life through psychedelic rose tinted glasses

Elephant belt. Of course.

Putting this idea in my pocket for Halloween / Sun & Moon goddess

I don't even know what that black shawl is, but I know I want it.

Airport chic.

Emerald suede coat and moccasins. Inspired.

WHERE CAN I FIND THIS TAPESTRY KIMONO?!

Can we also please take a moment to swoon over their younger (and talented in her own right) sister Elizabeth! She definitely has her sisters flare...

From the fabrics to the gypsy accessories, these Gemini sisters make chic clashing the new black.

Who are your style gurus?

Under the Microscope: Juergen Teller

Happy Friday Petals :-)

I was planning on writing a wee post on my favourite photographer but realised that I'm far too indecisive to pin point just one - I'm so indecisive I often mix my cheerios with coco pops! Instead, I thought it'd be more fun to create a new series called *jazz hands* 'Under the Microscope'. I'll get the ball rolling with quirky, German fashion photographer: Juergen Teller. Whenever I'm flicking through magazines or scrolling down Tumblr and an image strikes me, nine times out of ten it says his name beneath! His photos are so iconic, intimate and transport me into a world of endless possibilities!

It's taken me about two hours and four cups of tea to narrow down my top favourite snaps... feast your eyes on these!

BJÖRK AND HER SON SINDRI, 1993

DAISY LOWE

One of my favourite photo shoots of his is called 'The Magic Show' from 1994 and surprisingly features no celebrities, just a young girl with eccentric accessories and piercing eyes...
"Diamante horns from Portobello Market, London..."

KATE MOSS, VOGUE 2003

SOFIA COPPOLA & MARC JACOBS

KATE MOSS

I love Margherita Maccapani Missoni so much I wrote an entire blog post about her zany, kooky fashion sense!

KARLIE KLOSS

KIRSTEN DUNST, W MAGAZINE 2014

MARION COTILLARD, W MAGAZINE 2013

SELF PORTRAIT WITH HIS SON ED

DARIA WERBOWY

KATE MOSS, VOGUE 2003

You've probably noticed by now Jeurgen's trademark bright filter and a recurring model, Kate Moss! Over the years, the duo have had countless photo shoots (both professional and intimate) and it shows with Kate's relaxed energy. I also love how the notoriously elusive model allows him to capture candid moments with her daughter, Lila Grace - it's these personal snaps that remain my favourite of her...

Once I've settled into my new accommodation at uni, I want to frame these three Gothic shots - they just speak to me...

 BJÖRK, 2007

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG

Whilst getting my Inspector Gadget on and researching the ins and outs of Juergen Teller, I stumbled upon this fascinating article with musings behind some of his most renowned photographs!
