Kalo Mina #2 PAPERMADE

On my last visit to the Anglican church Holy Trinity, here on the island of Corfu, I borrowed a few anthologies from their impressive library and have been absorbing them ever since. In particular I've been captivated by Yannis RitSOS's Papermade. Here are a few lines that have stung:

I'll paint my shadow blue. I'll brush my teeth and I'll play the guitar. You hide under the bed. I'll pretend I don't know. • You keep expecting I'll say: 'It isn't like this.' This is how it is. For me too. Careful when you clip your nails. The scissors gleam.
